About This Spot

Stepping into Dirko's Pizza of Howard feels like sliding into a familiar, well-loved neighborhood spot where the pace is easy but the energy hums quietly with the anticipation of good food and shared moments. It’s the kind of place that carries the comforting warmth of ovens fired up for generations, where the hum of conversations blends seamlessly with the promise of a meal made with care. Whether you arrive just before a Friday night rush or on a calm weekday afternoon, there’s a steady rhythm here—the kind that invites both quick bites on the go and lingering, casual catch-ups over pizza fresh from the oven.

The atmosphere is unpretentious and welcoming, a gathering spot where families, local students, and longtime regulars come together to savor familiar favorites with a little twist. The friendly chatter, the clink of soda bottles, and the occasional laughter create a backdrop that is both lively and relaxed, making it easy to feel at home whether you’re enjoying a solo slice or sharing a Stromboli with friends.

Dirko’s menu offers more than just classic pizza; it’s an invitation to explore comfort in many forms. Imagine biting into a pepperoni pizza where cheese stretches just right and the sauce carries a subtle warmth that’s never overwhelming. Or the half-cooked calzone, a delightful surprise with every fold bursting with thoughtful layering of flavors. Burgers here carry the same simple, honest approach, suited for those leaning into familiar tastes but craving a hint of something special—like a pizza burger topped with pepperoni and mozzarella that echoes the kitchen’s passion for blending tradition with a dash of creativity.

What stands out most is how Dirko’s manages to feel consistently approachable, yet never rushed. On busier nights, the wait itself becomes part of the experience—the small anticipation shared among customers who know the slow, steady build of aromas means something worthwhile is coming. It’s a quiet assurance that each pizza, sub, or salad is crafted for moments that matter: post-game celebrations, family dinners, casual lunches, and everything in between.

In many ways, Dirko’s Pizza of Howard captures the essence of community dining—where the food isn’t just fuel, but also a reason to gather, share stories, and make memories that linger even after the last slice is gone.

Delicious stuff! I had a Stromboli, regular pepperoni and sausage, and it was brilliant! Lots of cheese, the sausage was crumbly, so no huge overwhelming chunks, and they serve the sauce HOT! For those that are sensitive, it was mildly spicy, but no worse than Grandma's chili (who only made it spice enough to clear the sinuses on a cold winter night, lol). The flavor is very good, though. The sauce seemed thin, compared to the dipping sauce I get at other pizza places, but I don't know if that's common for Stromboli or just the way they make their sauce. Either way, it stuck to the Stromboli when I dipped it, so it's all good. All in all, I will definitely stop in again if I'm in the neighborhood. Even if I have to drive the hour and something from Shelby to get myself in the neighborhood ;)

Dirko's simply has the best stromboli out there! I've never been disappointed with the Howard location. Always recommend it to people looking for great pizza or stromboli.

I grab a pizza from here every time we play at East Knox Highschool. After basketball or football games and it is good! I am a pepperoni and extra cheese guy and they don't disappoint on the toppings. I really like the smaller slices to handle on the go while driving home.

Cauliflower pizza is really good. Since I have to watch carb intake. People get upset when they walk into Dirkos on a Friday evening to order a pizza and the wait is long. Unfortunately on Fridays all pizza shops are busy, and you need to call ahead and order. The pizza is worth the wait.

Now, this is pizza!!!!! Perfect amount of sauce and toppings. The cheese is a great blend and taste phenomenal. Mike was very attentive and informative. I will return to this location all the waynfrom Zanesville. Good Job Dirkos! You're now my favorite pizza place...

Pizza is good, but the deep dish pizza is not a deep dish. It’s a regular pizza with a lot of crust. Would be a 5 star if it was done right.
